SMUDGING
One of the most common methods of using feathers is for smudging. This is a Native American process of wafting the fragrance and smoke of incense over the body and throughout your home, to cleanse and purify. If burning, a bundle of sage or incense, use a fire safe bowl to catch the ashes. As the smoke rises, hold the fan several inches above the smoke and gently fan your aura with the fragrance, over and around the entire body It is a means of bathing in the purifying fragrance. Sage, Cedar, Palo Santo, and Sweet-Grass are common herbs for Smudging. Frankincense and myrrh are also effective cleansing fragrances. Most people today associate Smudging fans with spiritual shamanic activities. Feathers used for this process are called a variety of names, the two most common being the aura duster or a feather duster.
AURA SWEEP
The human aura is the energy field that surrounds the physical body in all directions. It is comprised of many forms of energy, but has a strong electromagnetic aspect. This means we are constantly giving off and absorbing energy. Everything and everyone we encounter has the capability of effecting our energy. We can accumulate a lot of “energy debris” within the course of the day. In many ways it is like static electricity that has accumulated and has a detrimental effect.
Aura dusters are affective to use before and after any healing activity. They are also beneficial to use every day, on their own, to sweep out the energy debris you may accumulate..
1. Because the aura extends in all directions, you want to preform the dusting in the front, back, sides, head and feet.
2. Do not touch the body with the feathers, but simply use a soft, sweeping motion about 2-3 inches out from the body. 3. Start at the head and move down. Visualize as you do that you are literally sweeping and dusting all the negativity down into the earth and away from the body. Ask the earth to cleanse and purify the negative energy. 4. Also sweep the front and back, and do extra dusting at any area of the body, you feel inspired. Go under the arms, and have the individual raise his or her feet to dust them. If you find yourself fanning upward, ask for the pure white universal light to cleanse and transmute all negativity, from your being or space, into pure positive energy.
CORD CUTTING
Etheric cords are mental or emotional energetic connections to someone or something that gives or takes energy from you. Knowing about cords and learning how to cut them is very important. We can have cords to not only people, but to past events, places and things. It's important for you to know that cutting a cord that is attached to a person can help you recharge your energy, feel a sense of peace, can help you let go of the person or situation, and can bring about new, positive opportunities. It is one of the most important things you can do for yourself.
Hold your fan sideways with the back facing you. Visualize the feathers as knives.
You may choose to speak the following blessing as you swipe the Aura Cleansing Fan, in a downward motion, all around the body and as needed...
I now sever and release any and all energetic cords that do not serve my highest good.
I release you and I release me from these binds.

TALKING STICK
The Talking stick, used in many Indigenous cultures, is an ancient and powerful “communication tool” that ensures a code of conduct of respect during meetings is followed. The person holding the stick, and only that person, is designated as having the right to speak and all others must listen quietly and respectfully. Here are some basic rules to follow if yould like to host a communication circle:
If an Elder is present, they speak first
All in attendance are expected to listen
Listen with respect, support, compassion and quietness
Listen carefully - do not repeat information that has already been shared
Do not check your watch, or Yawn
Turn off your phone
Interrupting is not allowed
When the Elder, or whomever, is holding the talking stick has finished speaking, the stick is handed to the next person in the circle
If the receiver does not wish to speak, it is passed to the next person
If you are handed the Talking Stick and wish to speak, introduce yourself first
When everyone who wishes to speak has spoken, the Talking Stick is handed back to the Elder for safekeeping
Consider bringing a gift for any Elders who may be in attendance
