How to Use an Intention / Prayer Candle

THE POWER OF INTENTION

Intention candles are used to manifest wishes and desires. They are a way to bring your dream life into reality. It’s all rather simple. When you light it, it illuminates your intentions, and when you meditate on it, it releases a message and sends your energy out into the universe.

On a symbolic level, lighting a candle represents the five elements: earth, water, air, fire, and spirit. The wick and base signify earth and are vital for keeping the flame steady. The wax, which transforms from a solid to a liquid and then to gas, emulates water. Oxygen, representative of air, keep the flame lit. The flame is obviously fire (the element of transformation and rebirth). And lastly, spirit is represented when we focus our intention into the candle and infuse it with our energy.

First, you cleanse your space and your aura. (You do this by creating a space a quiet in your house and using palosanto or sage to cleanse the energy.) Grab a pen and a notebook. Close your eyes and visualize your goals and what you’d like to manifest. Focus on the feeling you get when you’ve achieved these goals. Do you feel elated? Excited? Let the feelings wash over you.Once you’ve meditated on it for a while, open your eyes and jot down your intentions. Light your candle and send your intention into the flame. Close with words of gratitude and positive affirmation.

SCRYING

Light your candle. Take some time to watch it. Let the flames grow taller and bolder and brighter, as each bit of kindling catches fire. Breathe deeply and evenly, allowing yourself to relax and become comfortable as the flame blazes.

When you have a good strong flame going, focus your vision on the center of the dancing flame. Just rest your eyesight wherever is the most comfortable.

Watch as the flame flickers and flashes. Do you see images in the flame? Some people see clear images, while others shapes. Look for images that seem familiar or for those that may repeat in a pattern.

Do you hear sounds as you watch the fire? You may hear the crackling of wood, the roar of larger flames, the snapping of embers. Some people report hearing faint voices singing or speaking in the fire.

Thoughts and ideas may pop into your head, seemingly unrelated to anything you see or hear. Be sure to use your notepad or journal so you can write these things down for future exploration. Spend as much time as you like watching the fire — once you start to get uncomfortable or fidgety, it’s time to wrap things up.

Messages often come to us from other realms and yet we frequently don't recognize them. If a bit of information doesn't make sense, don't worry — sit on it for a few days and let your unconscious mind process it. Chances are, it will make sense eventually. It's also possible that you could receive a message that's meant for someone else — if something doesn't seem to apply to you, think about your circle of friends, and who it might be meant for.

When you’re ready to end your scrying session, take a few moments to just relax, looking away from the fire. You may feel a high sense of energy, or an unusual sensation of clarity — if you do, don’t worry, that’s not uncommon.

You can either leave the flame burning, if it will be safe to do so, or ask for permission with gratitude to extinguish it yourself. Never blow a candle out. Either let it burn til the end itself (while supervised or snuff it out ♡

Be sure to review your notes later, so you can reflect on the things you’ve seen. If you scry regularly, get in the habit of comparing notes from one session to the next, to see if there are messages or images that appear often.

Enjoy these spiritual experiences♡

***Warning***

Always burn intention candles in an oversized fire proof bowl or plate. Line the bottom of the plate with water, sand, or, moon water. Intention candles are made with: rare herbs, flora, and essential oils. Candles will have a large flame and may flicker and spark. Never leave unattended. Take this time for holding your intention of the candle ♡

It should be noted, that while candles do indeed possess special energy, they are by no means an easy fix for life’s problems. As with any meditation or ritual, what you receive is only reflective of the amount of work you put in to achieving your goals. But intention candles are a great way to get clear about what you want to bring into your life. Happy manifesting!
